The Coronavirus Economic Response Package (Payments and Benefits) Rules 2020 have been amended by Coronavirus Economic Response Package (Payments and Benefits) Amendment Rules (No 9) 2020 to specify details about the JobMaker Hiring Credit scheme. Details include the start and end date of the scheme, when an employer or business is entitled to a payment, the amount and timing of a payment, and other matters relevant to the administration of the payment.

The JobMaker Hiring Credit Reporting Obligations Instrument 2020 lists the information that employers must provide the ATO either via Single Touch Payroll or otherwise, to verify eligibility and entitlements. The instrument also sets out the reporting deadlines for employee information and claims information for each JobMaker period.

Employers can now register with the ATO for the JobMaker Hiring Credit scheme. Eligible employers can register through ATO online services, the Business Portal, or a registered tax or BAS agent. Claims for the first quarterly payment will open on 1 February 2021.

Resources and detailed information on the scheme are available on the ATO’s JobMaker Hiring Credit scheme page, including a payment estimator.
